Lists
The lists of values the modules' pages choose from: reasons, kinds and the like.
Open the page in SchoolOSWhat it is for
Modules define lists of values their pages choose from, such as the reasons for an excuse, an exit or a rejection. Here each list's values are edited for the group as a whole: a value is added, renamed, ordered, deleted and restored.
Who uses it
Whoever holds a list's “view” or “manage” key as the module that defines it sets them; they are granted to any role under Settings → Roles and permissions.
Step by step
- Choose the list from the strip above the table if you have more than one.
- Press “+ Add value” and type the Arabic name, and the English one if you like; it is added at the end of the list.
- To edit a value or change its order: the pencil on its row. To delete it: the bin; it is restored from “Deleted”.
How it works
Each list belongs to one module, and is seen by whoever holds that module's “view” or “manage” key as the module sets it; only someone holding the list's “manage” adds, changes or deletes, over the group as a whole. The values are the group's, not one branch's. The order is a number: the smallest first. A value's internal code is generated, never typed, so it does not change when the name does. Deleting a value deactivates it: it stays on the records that chose it before, leaves the choices for new ones, and is restored from “Deleted”. Each list has a default value the system falls back to itself: it is renamed, never deleted. Some lists have fixed values, because the system works by each of them (such as the stages of a piece of work): they are renamed and reordered, never added to or deleted, and the page says so under the table. Every change is recorded in the action log with the list, the code and both names.
On the page
- The lists open to you; choose one.
- The list's values, and the deleted ones.
- Each value's name and order. The pencil changes, the bin deletes.
- “+ Add value”: the name in Arabic and English.
Questions
- Can I delete a value older records chose?
- Yes. It stays on those records, leaves the choices for new ones, and is restored from “Deleted”.
- Why is there no bin on one value?
- It is the list's default value, or the list's values are fixed; it is renamed, never deleted.
- What is the “Health data” tick?
- It shows on the lists whose module allows health values. A ticked value is seen on records only by whoever holds that module's health-data key. Ticking is always allowed; unticking a value that records hold is refused, so those records are not shown to readers who may not see health data. Both are recorded in the action log.
- I see one list only, or no edit buttons.
- A list shows to whoever holds its key, and changing it needs its “manage”; ask the group's owner for the key.
