What it is for

To bring data in from Excel files all at once instead of row by row. This page says what you can import and in what order, how much of it is on file, and takes you to each kind's own import screen.

Who uses it

Whoever holds the “Manage” permission of one of these kinds; the page shows each only the kinds their permissions open, and does not open for someone who holds none.

Step by step

  1. Open “Import data” from Settings.
  2. Read the table from the top: the kinds are in the order they depend on each other, so start with the first, because the ones after it may need it.
  3. In the “On file now” column you see how much of the kind is saved; “Nothing yet” means it is empty.
  4. Press “Import” in a kind's row to open its screen: download the template and fill it, then upload it and press “Check the file”, and if it is clean press “Save”.
  5. Press the kind's name to open its page and look over what came in.

How it works

The kinds are registered by the sections of the system switched on for the group, and each has its own screen and template. You see only a kind you hold the permission to manage. The “On file now” count is read when the page opens. Nothing is saved from a file until the whole file is clean, and rows whose problem you agree to save past are saved as “Needs review”.

  • “Import”: opens the kind's screen, where you download the template, upload the file, check it and save.

Questions

Why can't I see a kind of data?
The page shows only the kinds you hold the permission to manage, of the sections switched on. If you need one, ask the group's owner or whoever manages the roles for the permission.
Where do I start?
With the first kind in the table: the order is the order they depend on each other, so what is above is entered before what is below.
