Morning duty
Who is on duty each morning at the school: on their day they mark the register of every class.
Open the page in SchoolOSWhat it is for
The principal sets here who takes the morning duty: by weekday (every Sunday, say) or on one date. On their day the register opens for the person on duty at every class of the school that has a shift that day, to mark attendance only. The week at the top shows the next seven days, so you can tell who is on duty today at a glance.
Who uses it
The page opens for whoever holds “The morning duty page's door (comes with managing the duty)”, to look only, or “Manage the morning duty rota”, to work in it. In the built-in roles: Owner, Manager, Principal. They are granted to any role under Settings → Roles and permissions.
Step by step
- Pick the school if you have more than one.
- Press “Add a weekly duty”, pick the member of staff and tick one or more weekdays, then “Add”.
- For one date (a stand-in when the person on duty is away) press “Add a duty for one date” and pick the member of staff and the date.
- To end a duty press the bin icon on its row; it is not deleted but stops from now, and its record stays.
How it works
If a date has rows of its own, they alone are on duty that date; otherwise those of its weekday are. Several members of staff may share a day. Only a member of staff with a current placement at the school can be added. The duty is for marking only: the person on duty does not close the day, approve excuses, or see or export the reports, and it does not reach a class with no shift that day. Every mark written by right of the duty is recorded in the action log as written on duty. Every addition or ending is recorded there by number, never by name. The duty grants no key: someone who holds no key for recording attendance gets nothing from it.
On the page
- Pick the school.
- The next seven days and who is on duty each day, today first.
- The rota's live rows: the member of staff and when, with a button to end each.
- Add a weekly duty or a duty for one date.
Questions
- Why was the member of staff refused?
- Either they have no current placement at this school (add it in “Staff placements”), or they are already on the rota for that weekday or date.
- A warning says the person on duty holds no key for recording attendance. What do I do?
- The duty opens the register only for someone who holds the key for recording attendance. Give the member of staff a role that has it, such as “Teacher”; the rota needs no change.
- Can the person on duty close the day or open the reports?
- No; the duty is for marking only. They get every class of the school that day and nothing more: no other day of those classes opens for them, and the next day they are back to the scope of their role.
